Discover Gaslight Kitchen Asian Cuisine

If you’ve ever wandered through the charming streets of Grand Rapids and found yourself craving bold flavors and comforting plates, Gaslight Kitchen Asian Cuisine at 2128 Wealthy St SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506, United States, is the kind of place that quietly earns a permanent spot on your go-to list. I’ve visited more than a handful of Asian restaurants across Michigan, and this one stands out not just for taste, but for consistency and atmosphere.

The first thing you notice when scanning the menu is how thoughtfully it’s curated. Instead of overwhelming you with endless pages, it focuses on crowd favorites-fresh sushi rolls, savory noodle bowls, stir-fried rice, and flavorful curry dishes. On my last visit, I ordered their signature pad thai alongside a specialty sushi roll. The noodles arrived perfectly balanced-tangy tamarind, a touch of sweetness, crushed peanuts for texture. It’s the kind of dish that tells you the kitchen understands proportion and timing, two essentials in Asian cooking.

From a culinary standpoint, proper wok technique matters. High heat cooking locks in flavor while keeping vegetables crisp. According to guidance shared by culinary programs and food safety authorities like the USDA, maintaining correct cooking temperatures is critical for both taste and safety. You can tell the chefs here respect that process. The vegetables in my stir-fry were vibrant and never soggy, which signals fresh ingredients and careful timing.

Another highlight is their sushi. I’ve seen too many places treat sushi as an afterthought, but here it feels central. The rice had that slightly warm, vinegared softness that sushi chefs aim for, and the fish tasted clean and fresh. Considering that seafood safety is closely monitored by organizations such as the FDA, freshness is not just about flavor-it’s about trust. Gaslight Kitchen’s presentation and quality show they take sourcing seriously.

Beyond the food, the dining space has a relaxed yet polished vibe. It’s casual enough for a weeknight dinner but still feels special for a date night. The staff, in my experience, are attentive without hovering. During one busy Friday evening, our server handled multiple tables smoothly, checked in at just the right moments, and made solid recommendations from the menu. That kind of service reflects good management and training.

Reviews from locals often mention consistency, and I’d agree. Consistency is what separates a decent restaurant from one that builds loyalty. When dishes taste the same-balanced, fresh, well-seasoned-visit after visit, it signals standardized kitchen procedures and quality control. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, known as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, frequently emphasizes safe food handling in commercial kitchens. While diners don’t see back-of-house operations, consistent quality and cleanliness in the dining area usually reflect disciplined internal practices.

Portion sizes are fair, not excessive, but satisfying. Prices align with other Asian cuisine spots in the Wealthy Street area, making it accessible without sacrificing quality. If you’re exploring locations for lunch meetings, casual dinners, or even small group gatherings, this address is convenient and easy to reach within the Gaslight Village district.

One real-life example that stuck with me: I brought a friend who typically avoids sushi and prefers cooked dishes. She ordered a teriyaki entrée and ended up sampling my roll. By the end of the meal, she admitted it changed her mind about trying raw fish. That kind of turnaround doesn’t happen by accident-it comes from proper preparation, balanced seasoning, and careful presentation.

Of course, like any restaurant, peak hours can mean a short wait. Reservations aren’t always required, but during weekends, planning ahead helps. That said, the wait has always felt worthwhile.

For anyone browsing restaurant reviews and comparing menus in the Grand Rapids area, Gaslight Kitchen Asian Cuisine delivers on flavor, freshness, and friendly service. It’s not just another Asian eatery-it’s a dependable spot where thoughtful cooking and genuine hospitality come together in a way that keeps people coming back.

  • Came to Grand Rapids with the family for the lantern festival, drove 15 mins to get here and no regrets whatsoever! The BEST fine Asian food I have ever had, General Tso I got with white meat was to die for. The beef skewers was such a cool experience as well. The kids even got smoothies and loved them! Staff is great as well.

  • This restaurant is a hidden gem. We ordered the large family dinner for 4 in a takeout and it was incredible. I’ve never had any egg drop soup that even comes close to theirs. I loved the sizzling rice soup but I have one suggestion to improve it. Use some egg drop soup base in it just to turn the broth up a bit in taste. Every meal was very generous and oh so good! Fresh is the best word I can use to describe everything we ate. The staff is great, the restaurant is impeccably clean and I can’t wait to go back!

  • Stopped in for an early dinner/late lunch at 3pm. I ordered the Sweet and Sour Pork, a large serving with plenty of rice, and a Vietnamese coffee. The Sweet & Sour was very good, coffee was too. Service was excellent.

  • Food: you have Chinese-American restaurants in every town, but you rarely have really good ones. Gaslight is one of the really good ones. The dumplings were not only great, but seem like such a rarity these days. Orange chicken came recommended so we gave that a try along with tofi vegetable stir fry. Not disappointed, orange sauce was amazing with a very deep citrus flavor and even little bits of peel in it was almost like candy. Vegetables in the stir fry were perfectly cooked, still having some crunchiness and not the typical mush. Service was very good, but a little odd for dining in. They gave us menus, let us pick our seats, but then had us come up to the bar to order. We later found out it was due to a constant lack of staff. Everyone was very nice, food came out fairly quickly with a perfect pause between our appetizers and mains. The inside is a little sparse. Straight back wooden chairs. Once people started filling the place it got a bit loud.

  • It’s hard for me to find a restaurant that not only offers top-tier quality meals, but also impeccable service. Here at Gaslight, you will receive nothing short of a warm family welcome. We moved here about 2 years ago. Our goal was to try local restaurants and nail down those “Goto” spots! We were often given poor advice from locals with bad taste in food. We decided to check on google to find a local Asian cuisine with amazing food! We did JUST THAT. With such fantastic reviews already, we knew we had to try! At this time, Covid was still at a high and most places were take-out only. We didn’t want to sacrifice the quality of our meal by ordering take-out, but after reading the reviews, we would have been silly not to! The food, even traveling 15min home, was undeniably delicious. We went ahead and sat inside the VERY SECOND they re-opened for dine-in! The service was TOP-TIER from start to finish! It started a whole routine. We began visiting almost twice a week! We got so close to the family, we held every birthday celebration here inviting our family from out of town. Even our sons 4th bday. It’s become our tradition now. We became “”victims”” of routine with our fav dishes! We order the “Bali Bali Beef” and “Crab Cheese” appetizers, even our toddler loves them! Our son also LOVES the “Veggie Lo Mein” as his entree! My favorite is the “Orange Chicken.” When they told me it took two days to develop their PERFECT AUTHENTIC orange sauce from scratch, I said “say no more.” I’LL TAKE IT! My boyfriend always tries something new! He says you can’t go wrong with the “Singapore Noodles” We will continue to support Gaslight as It is our absolute favorite Grand Rapids Restaurant. If you’re looking for authentic Asian cuisine, family atmosphere, and a warm welcome.. I HIGHLY suggest you check them out! You don’t want to regret it, I don’t believe there’s a comparable restaurant. 10/10 every single time, thank you! Coming back to add to my review as of 6/27/2025… it’s been almost 4 years since we found Gaslight Kitchen, and we still suggest it to everyone we meet/being into town! We stopped in a few days ago and had our usual, to no surprise… the service and food was a 12/10! We actually tried the egg roll for our first time here, WOW. Consider it a new staple and reason to stop in! LOVE THE GASLIGHT FAMILY! You’re all angels! See you soon!

  • Absolutely great. Unfortunately, we have struggled to find a high quality Chinese restaurant anywhere in the area. Using google maps to track down this establishment; it was fantastic. The owner spent time with us conversing and even showed us the proper way to roll mushu pork, in the pancake, with plum sauce. Everything was fresh and high quality. Service was excellent. We even laughed that restroom could be in a hospital; which says a lot about how a business is managed. I hope the best for Mr. Ly. The pride of ownership and attention to quality was evident. We will be back; worth the drive from Grand Haven.

  • Absolutely wonderful in every way. I could see coming here for a cute date night or just for some fantastic takeout. Incredible service. Incredible food. I’m a bit picky to be completely honest, and they were so kind and knowledgeable when it came to the food allergens I needed to avoid. They also were great about sharing about how everything was made in general and what was in everything. Very short wait time. No weird bits in the meat(a forever pet peeve of mine). A generous amount of chicken. Normally I find that there’s not a good meat to noodle ratio at other places, but they did a great job. Highly recommend. 10/10
